Emily Hampson
Writer. Mother. Chronic list-maker. Devotee to the color brown. Champion of the Oxford comma. Mango addict dwelling in Chicago. (I know. It’s less than ideal.)
After attending the same high school as Ernest Hemingway (give or take 80 years), Emily Hampson continued the inevitable battle against imposter syndrome while studying psychology at Stanford University. Post-college, she abandoned California sun and date palms to return to her frozen Midwestern deciduous roots, and every January, she fails to remember why. During the day, she works in hospitality sales, primarily because it supports her wanderlust and persistent quest to visit climates that grow decent mangoes.
Emily is a member of the Chicago Writers Association and a proud alum of the juried Northern California Writer’s Retreat. In 2024, she completed a two-year Novel Writing Certificate Program through Stanford Continuing Studies. These days, she is busy editing a contemporary upmarket novel about grief, twins, and the genetic lottery in the stolen minutes between laundry, vet visits, and boiling nutritionally-deficient carbohydrates for dinner. She resides in the Chicago suburbs with her husband, two daughters, and a mischievous Bernedoodle whose antics provide endless narrative material.

River Forest Library Short Story Writing Contest – Second Place (2023)
This won me a bona fide pencil-holder typewriter which sits atop my desk as a friendly reminder not to quit my day job. Just yet.
